Six Shopping "Musts" For a Mattress

  1. Support. Correct support is essential to healthy sleep. A good mattress and foundation will gently support your body at all points and keep your spine in the same body position as good standing posture.
  1. Comfort. Mattresses don't have to be hard as a board to be good for you, though some people may prefer a firmer feel. Today, mattresses are built with luxurious new cushioning materials and surface treatments, creating a plusher feel. While these mattresses may feel more plush, the core provides the needed support for your body. You'll sleep best on a mattress and foundation that offer you superior comfort as well as appropriate support. Trust your body to tell you which one feels best.
  1. Space. Select a mattress that gives you enough room for easy, free movement, especially if you're sleeping with a partner. Couples should have a queen or king-size mattress to ensure that both individuals have enough space to feel comfortable.
  1. Durability and Warranty. Durability refers to how long support and comfort will continue. Like all products, a mattress and foundation gradually wear out. Eventually, you won't receive the same support and comfort you did when the sleep set was new. The performance of a poor quality set can deteriorate very quickly while top quality sets can be expected to provide comfort and support for a number of years. The warranty protects against product and workmanship defects, not the gradual loss of comfort and support.
  1. Matching Sleep Sets. Matching mattresses and foundations are designed and engineered to work together. The foundation acts as a giant shock absorber, taking a lot of the wear and tear of nightly use. Foundations also lend added support and durability.
  1. Value. Shop for the best value, not the lowest price. "Bargain bedding" is no bargain when it comes to getting a good night's sleep. Buying the best you can afford is a healthy investment in yourself.

Educate Yourself on the Available Choices Before You Set Out to Shop

There are many ways to gather intelligence on your next bed mattress purchase. You could choose to go to the local mattress shop, and have a small chat with the owner regarding the bed mattress available at present on the market.

You may ask the opinions of your close friends and/or relatives and make note of what they prefer and what they warn you about. You may go for an intensive window shopping session where you literally do research on bed mattresses so you can gather all the possible information there is.

There are few things to which you should pay close attention when you buy a bed mattress.

Does the mattress come with a guarantee or warranty and if so, for what period? The minimum warranty should be 10 years. Anything above is bonus, anything below it and you should drop the mattress.

In regards to measurement, the bed mattress should be built for the exact specifications of a standard single or double bed. In case it is not, do not take the trouble of buying it.

When it comes to longevity, ensure that the foam and other materials it is made with are of high quality so that the mattress would not sag after sleeping on it for a few years. The mattress should be good for at least 10 years.

You should also check out whether the bed mattress you chose is soft or hard enough for you. There are people who cannot sleep on hard mattresses, and there are people who cannot manage on a soft one. As an exchange after the purchase can be pretty cumbersome, be sure you know what you want.

There are many types of bed mattresses for different bed sizes and types. Check out the tips and guides we have prepared for you and learn how you can choose the right bed mattress for you and your family.

Happy mattress shopping.

Memory Foam Mattresses

Memory foam is a polyurethane material, with certain chemicals added to determine the density of the foam. Generally, its firmness varies when it's exposed to heat and cold.

This is what lets a memory mattress mould itself to the contours of your warm body as you lie in bed. As you move durnig the night, the memory mattress will mould itself to your new position, leaving no gaps between you and the bed. It's those gaps, which can't be avoided with traditional coil spring mattresses, that cause discomfort.

What some people call a memory mattress is made out of what's known as memory foam.

Even though memory foam is not quite as expensive as it was when it was introduced a few years ago, it's still a high end option. However, you can get some of the benefits of a memory mattress without the high price tag by putting a memory foam mattress "topper" on top of a traditional mattress. This foam is generally about 6 inches thick, enough to provide the "memory" effect and almost the mattress comfort you'd get from a memory mattress.I
